Torpy that would be awesome, but Im not about to order your ABDA fleet out of the action mate. Cool  Lets just hold fire on this one till we get a full list of competitors and interested parties. Im yet to launch the promotional campaign for SAOC so lets just see who has the balls enough to come accross and engage in a real tourney.

I mean what I say as well, I appreciate everyones quote-unquote loyalties to their particular forums of choice, but these players should keep one thing in mind that "all" forums for War at Sea are part of a global community and without "all" of us participating in "all" the forums the "game" itself is dead as Giullio Cesare.

Put into this context larger forums membership such as Forumini and Wizards of the Coast should always have an open policy. This is so important to the players and indeed the game itself to promote interforum cooperation and promotion of the game. Afterall thats what we are all here for...right? To promote the game, for the "players". This ensures an even broader cross-section of ideas and opinions, activities and events.

I know that the Axis & Allies Underground and I share in this policy, I still visit these sites as well as many others and have multiple memberships, I dont just rely on one source of information or just one cross-section of the community to get the pulse of what is happening in the world of War at Sea. Anyways this is the general message I have for the general  community at large and thats the message I intend to send and continue to promote.

Cheers mi good mate Torpy and cheers everyone. Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Agreed (with Dan's last post)....Torpy I plan to be one of the Adjutants if that is acceptable to everyone.  Another good choice would be Ants but I have not heard from him in awhile.

Dan, with regret I must decline your offer mate.  Along with my regular life I have been helping my son on some remodeling of his place.  My hope is to be done by the end of June so that I can help with the tourney.

Lastly, remember Dan not to forget Ober's kind offer of spreading the word once the rules have been finalized and you are ready for a PR launch.

Cheers mate, look, I think most of us including George share this mentality so not to detract anything away from the mainstreamer guys Wink , the only difference is they have been running for longer and have a larger membership and as a result a much larger data base. This will improve over time Im sure.

Im a very persistant and very patient man. Wink  lol

Also, no mate I have not forgotten Obers offer and I intend to take him up on it, those guys are true gamers and I have the utmost respect for all of them. Ober himself has been instrumental in the set-up and development of Seasablaze and he already knows how grateful I am to him for all his guidence, expetise, advice and support.

On time constraints and lifestyles, guys you know where I stand on this, I have posted many messages about it, we do what we can where we can and that pretty much sums it up. We all have busy lives and this is our chosen hobby. Family first eveything else second. I hope you can make it for the Tourney Chum but Im the first to promote "family first".

...and no worries about the proposed game...rain check mate, some other time when we both have a little less to do. Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Cheers mate, cheers all. Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Dan

SAOC Tournament Rules & Fleet Build Criteria

1. Points Limit - 300 Points (players lists may not exceed 300 points).

2. Objectives & Victory Conditions – All SAOC Tournament Maps will have a total of 3 objectives, each victory marker is worth a total of 150 points, to achieve victory a player must gain at least 450 points by the end of a full game turn. Alternately a player may achieve victory if at any time his opponent “Concedes” the battle, in this case the “conceding” player will forfeit all points to his opponent.

3. SAOC Tournament Points – All players will receive championship points at the end of each round in the following way:

Win = 10 Points
Draw = 6 Points
Loss = 4 Points
Forfeit/Conceed = 0 Points

Bonus Points:

"Expedient Commander" = 2 Points (Complete Game within 7 Days)
"Appetite For Destruction" = 3 Points (Destroy All Surface Units)
"Expert Tactician" = 2 Points (Seaze ALL objectives)

4. Year Limits – NONE (1939-1945), Players are not restricted by year limits.

5. Class Limits – Historical, Fantasy Units – 1.

6. Theatre of Operations – Players will choose a “theatre of operations” for their upcoming match in any mutually agreeable fashion OR they may roll a dice to determine the theatre:

(D6)
1-2 The Mediterranean Campaign (allies: RN, USN, MN / axis: KM, RM, VFN)
3-4 The Atlantic Campaign (allies: RN, USN, SN / axis: KM, SN)
5-6 The Pacific Campaign (allies: USN, RN, ABDA / axis: IJN)

7. Nation Axis vs Nation Allies – Players lists may be comprised of nation specific builds ONLY. Players must choose from the following nations:

Axis Sides-
IJN – Kaigun, Imperial Japanese Navy (Japan)
KM – Kriegsmarine (Germany)
RM – Regia Marina (Italy)
VFN – Vichy French Navy (Vichy France)
SN – Soviet Navy (USSR)

Allies Sides-
USN – United States Navy (USA)
RN – Royal Navy (UK & Commonwealth)
MN – Marine Nationale (France)
SN – Soviet Navy (USSR)
ABDA/ABDACOM – American British Dutch Australian Command

8. Historical Allies– Players may choose up to 20% of their total points allocation (60 points) to historical allies from their particular “Theatre of Operations”.

IJN – None (IJN Units ONLY)
KM – 20% of total points may be compised of RM or VFN (Med Only), USSR, Finland & Sweden (Atlantic Only).
RM – 20% of total points may be comprised of KM units (Med Only).
VFN – 20% of total points may be comprised of KM and RM units (Med Only).
SN – 30% of total points may be comprised of KM units (Atlantic Only).

USN – None (USN Units ONLY)
RN – 20% of total points may be comprised of US (All theatres), French, Greek or Polish (Atlantic/Med Only).
MN – 20% of total points may be comprised of RN & Commonwealth Units (Med Only).
SN – 30% of total points may be comprised of RN, Polish Units (Atlantic Only).
ABDA – 60% USN & RN units must be taken, 40% Dutch & Australian Units must be taken. (Pacific Only).

9. Custom Cards – We sanction the use of ANY custom card as long as it is mutually agreed by both players at the time the fleet build is lodged. Cards from the TP (Team Poseidon) or “official” Seas Ablaze Custom Cards decks ARE approved and may be used by all players.

10. Fantasy ships - We sanction the use of historical fantasy units ONLY, by definition this includes only units that had their hulls laid down and progressed or were completed by 1945, theoretical or otherwise units may not be taken, fantasy units included for SAOC:

KM:
DKM Graf Zeppelin (Graf Zeppelin Class Fleet Carrier)
DKM Peter Strasser (Graf Zeppelin Class Fleet Carrier)

RM:
RM Aquila (Aquila Class Fleet Carrier)

SN:
SS Sovietskiy Soyuz (Sovietskiy Soyuz Class Battleship)

RN:
HMS Vanguard (Vanguard Class Battleship)
HMS Collossus (Collossus Class Fleet Carrier)

11. Banned Units – As a result of the Fantasy Units allowed for the SAOC Tournament some official W@S units have been excluded from play this is to achieve at least some parity to all nations playing in the tournament or to give a more historical ambience to the games played, units banned from play:

USN:
USS Montana (Montana Class Battleship)

KM:
DKM Friedrich de Grosse (Friedrich de Grosse Class Battleship)
DKM Moltke (Moltke Class Battlecruiser)

IJN:
IJN Tsushima

12. Game Time Allocation - All players are to complete their games in a timely fashion, all players will have a total of 10 Days from the time their Fleet Builds are lodged to complete their game. The time is marked from the Fleet Builds Post and will have 10 days from that time to 0000 (GMT) to complete their game. Bonus points will be available to all players that can complete their game within 7 Days.

13. Sportsmanship– All players should conduct themselves in a friendly and gentlemanly manner at all times, everyone has the right to play and be treated fairly and respectfully at all times. A little healthy taunting is ok though…

Finally…

Remember why this is being done: Fun, variety, fun, fog-of-war and fun. Did I mention fun? Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Why is Sho Go Yamato banned? That is a historical and fine ship. Tsushima should be banned but not Sho Go Yammie.  Confused

Agreed - Sho-Go Yamato is the Yamato in the configuration in which she participated in the Battle off Samar.  It is NOT a "fantasy unit".

I'm not in favor of banning fantasy units in general, but even if that's going to be pushed through, Sho-Go Yamato isn't one of them.

Rules stand as read.

I have copied them into the SAOC rules thread.  If any further additions/ corrections or discussions to the rules in the future they should be made in that thread.

Hello Dan.....10 days left to the start of this thing...how are you doing with the maps.

Frankly, have not heard much from anyone on this tourney lately.  I know its summer and a lot of us are very busy and taking vacations.  Maybe it will be wise to post pone this for another month or even two.

My goal to hopefully make it so that those who want to play have an opportunity to do so.

Any thoughts?

I apologize Torpy but I believe there are players that want to play but are to busy with life right now.

I have talked to Dan, I believe the Tourney will be postponed until late August.   Late August is the best estimate right now, a more definite date will be selected soon.
